Cutis Lux

About Cutis Lux

Cutis Lux (“skin light” in Latin) is an independent editorial publication about at-home light-based skincare devices. We compare published specifications and explain the research, so readers can judge claims for themselves.

Editorial team

Cutis Lux is written and checked by a small editorial team with an interest in skin science and device research. Articles are credited to the team rather than to individuals. We are not a laboratory and do not test devices.

Independence

  • No payment, sponsorship, free products or affiliate commission from any brand.
  • Manufacturer links are plain links with no tracking.
  • Devices are listed alphabetically. We do not rank, score or award devices.
  • Every brand gets the same fields and space; matches and lists are produced by rules applied to all.
  • Brand introductions describe what is genuinely notable about each device, using published facts.

Method

  1. Device selection. Five popular at-home LED face masks and five at-home lasers marketed for facial skin and sold on the manufacturer’s own site when checked, each with an FDA 510(k) record. IPL and hair-removal devices are excluded.
  2. Specifications. Taken from the manufacturer product page on the date shown. Missing figures are written “Not found on checked page”, never estimated or copied from another model.
  3. FDA records. Searched in the FDA 510(k) database and openFDA, and labelled “names this device”, “matched by model or device name” or “possible match”.
  4. Prices. Reference prices in the currency shown on the checked page, not converted, and not current offers.
  5. Research. Studies from PubMed, summarised from the published abstract, including null and weak results and the study’s limits. A device is linked to a study when its published technology and wavelengths match the study.

Editorial policy

We write in plain English, put the answer first, distinguish manufacturer claims from independent evidence, and avoid medical advice. Health content explains research; it does not recommend treatment. Consult a doctor about skin conditions, pregnancy, medication or a cancer history.

Corrections

We recheck specifications and prices regularly. When a figure is wrong or out of date we correct it and log the change, with the date, in the changelog. To report an error, email contact@cutislux.com with the page and the source that shows the correct figure.

Contact

Email contact@cutislux.com for corrections, questions about our method or data, and brand updates to specifications. We do not accept payment, free products or sponsored placements.
